His close relationship with the foundry goes back generations, meaning that a life without sculpture for Julio César Murciego is not conceivable. Although he studied at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trade of Madrid, he received his real training in a more family setting. "My father began working with Eduardo Capa in Segovia and collaborated his entire life". After taking the torch in 1984, he is now the one who bears witness to the Capa's evolution. This professional career has meant that he always stays up to date with the latest creative trends and masters the sculptural technique from the beginning to the very end, from the wax trial to the moment the bronze cools down. "It is extremely enriching to see the work of so many artists... I have seen a thousand things over the course of 30 years", he explains. In his personal work, for which he always saves some time, the evolution has always swayed towards the figurative sphere of art. "I interpret the body; I like to transform it, like in the pieces shown in the exhibition I did, although there is no psychology behind my work. I like to be driven by inspiration". This philosophy has led him to currently experiment in three very different lines of work which have no connection to his artistic approach from 15 years ago: figuration, abstract work in wood and compositions with wire. Abstract art, represented in older works such as A un lado [To one side], Espiral [Spiral] or No te vayas [Do not leave], are small pieces that serve as reminders of the old Julio César of whom the artist himself almost has no recollection.
